Dependent Visa

Dependent Visa (known as Residence as Dependent visa), this visa is for individuals who wish to enter Hong Kong as dependents of sponsor’s in the HKSAR.

A sponsor who is a Permanent Resident or a resident who is not subject to a limit of stay (i.e. a resident with the right to land or on unconditional stay) of Hong Kong can apply for the following persons to enter as Dependents:

  • Spouse / Partner in a same sex marriage (marriage to be registered legally and officially recognised by the local authorities of the place of celebration
  • Child below the aged 18
  • Parent aged above 60

 

A sponsor who entered the HKSAR to take up employment (investment, employment or training) or studies (in a full-time undergraduate or post-graduate ), or who is permitted to remain in the HKSAR as an entrant under the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme or the Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents, the following dependents may apply to join him/her for residence in the HKSAR:

  • Spouse / Partner in a same sex marriage (marriage to be registered legally and officially recognised by the local authorities of the place of celebration
  • Child below the aged 18

The visa would be  judged based if:

  1. The relationship is between the applicant and the sponsor
  2. There is no known record to the detriment of the applicant; and
  3. The sponsor is able to support the dependant’s living at a standard well above the subsistence level and provide him/her with suitable accommodation in the HKSAR.
The visa granted initially for 1 year and is renewed in a pattern of 1-3-3 (this usually depends on the sponsor’s status in the HKSAR).
